Comparison

DealSource Systems vs SourceCo.

DealSource Systems wrote this page and DealSource Systems is one of the firms on it. That belongs in the first line, not in a footnote. Every SourceCo claim below was read off sourcecodeals.com on 18 September 2026 and is quoted. SourceCo has something we do not: a seller-side funnel, and now CAPTARGET. Both are said plainly below.

The first thing to know: SourceCo has acquired CAPTARGET

SourceCo's site states that it "just acquired CapTarget to build the largest proprietary sourcing engine in middle-market deal origination". CAPTARGET confirms it with a banner on its own homepage: "CAPTARGET has joined SourceCo to build the next generation of expanded buy-side deal origination".

So the two largest names in the service half of this category are now one group. If you are comparing SourceCo and CAPTARGET against each other, you are comparing two products from the same owner.

Who each one is for

SourceCo is built for two audiences at once. For owners: "$2M to $200M Founder-Led Business? We Built This for You", at "$0 cost". For buyers: private equity firms, corporate development and other acquirers who want proprietary off-market flow plus access to deals SourceCo has already sourced.

DealSource Systems only works for the buy side. We are hired by one party, the acquirer, and every conversation we open belongs to that acquirer.

What SourceCo actually does

On the owner side, SourceCo says it will "scan 4,000+ vetted buyers and identify the ones that align with your goals", with headline numbers of "<7 Days to match" and "<42 Days to Offer", at "$0 cost" and "0 Obligation". The fee model is explicit: "SourceCo never charges company owners for anything (we're compensated by the buyer)". The firm says it is "Backed by $250M+ in Closed Off-Market Transactions".

On the buy side, they publish "3,000+ Deals sourced", an eight-week ramp from thesis to meetings, a "Typical cadence: 8 to 10 touches over six weeks", and an off-market deal feed with "50+ active founder-led deals ready to transact" where "Buyer verification required to access".

On what they are not: "We've built our own software to automate data collection, enrichment, and outreach", but "we're not a SaaS product you log into. SourceCo is a service powered by technology, not a subscription platform." No buy-side prices are published.

What we do

DealSource Systems runs origination as a standing function for private equity funds, M&A advisors, boutique investment banks and search funds. AI maps the market against your thesis, scores readiness signals on each company and drafts the approach. Then operators with deal experience review every message before an owner sees it and handle the replies, including the ones that need a real answer about structure or timing.

Pricing is on the site rather than behind a call: from $4,000 a month for a single thesis, $8,000 and above for a dedicated multi-thesis mandate, no success fee, 90-day minimum term. The engagement we publish in full is Merritt Healthcare Advisors, a healthcare investment bank: 14 qualified founder conversations in the first three weeks, 133 inside 90 days. We are part of Danish Lead Co.

Where SourceCo is stronger than us

They have inventory. A seller-side funnel means SourceCo can show a buyer "50+ active founder-led deals ready to transact" today. We build a pipeline from zero on your thesis. If you want to look at live off-market situations this month, they can do that and we cannot.

Scale and closed volume. "$250M+ in Closed Off-Market Transactions" and "3,000+ Deals sourced", now with CAPTARGET's fifteen years behind the same group. Our published proof is one engagement.

Reach into owners who came to them. An owner who asked SourceCo for a valuation is further along than an owner we approach cold. That is a genuinely different and warmer starting point.

Where we are stronger

One side of the table. SourceCo is paid by the buyer while acting as the owner's route to market, and tells owners it is "compensated by the buyer". That is disclosed and legitimate, but it is a different job from ours. We are hired by you, represent only you, and every relationship we open is yours to keep.

Your thesis, not their inventory. Our targets come from your buy box even when the answer is a market with no ready sellers in it. A firm with a deal feed has an understandable pull toward the deals it already has.

Published pricing and a stated minimum. From $4,000 a month, 90-day minimum, no success fee. SourceCo publishes no buy-side price.

The honest counterweight: we are the newest firm in this category and we publish one documented engagement. Anyone asking for a decade of closed transactions across hundreds of mandates is asking for something we do not have yet.

When to choose SourceCo over us

Choose SourceCo if you want access to deals that already exist rather than a campaign that creates them, if being one of a set of "4,000+ vetted buyers" in front of founder-led sellers is the coverage you want, or if you are the seller in this equation, in which case they charge you nothing and we are not a service for you at all.

When to choose us over SourceCo

Choose us if you want an origination function that answers only to you, if your thesis is specific enough that a shared deal feed will not contain it, if you want your own brand in front of owners rather than an intermediary's, or if you want to know the monthly cost before the first call.

How we checked this

Read on 18 September 2026: sourcecodeals.com for the owner-side claims, fee language, buyer network size, the SaaS statement and the CapTarget acquisition; sourcecodeals.com/private-equity for the buy-side ramp, cadence and deal counts; captarget.com for the matching confirmation of the acquisition. Our own numbers come from our published engagement and our stated pricing.

Common questions

Did SourceCo acquire CAPTARGET?

Yes. SourceCo's site says it "just acquired CapTarget", and CAPTARGET's homepage carries a banner saying it "has joined SourceCo". Both firms state it publicly, so the two are now one group.

Does SourceCo charge business owners anything?

No. Their site says "SourceCo never charges company owners for anything (we're compensated by the buyer)", alongside "$0 cost" and "0 Obligation" for sellers.

Is SourceCo a software platform?

No, and they say so. Their site states they built their own software for data collection, enrichment and outreach, but that they are "not a SaaS product you log into" and are "a service powered by technology, not a subscription platform".

What does SourceCo cost a buyer?

They publish no buy-side pricing. We will not estimate it. Ours is published: from $4,000 a month for a single thesis and $8,000 and above for a dedicated multi-thesis mandate, with no success fee.

Which one gets to a live opportunity faster?

SourceCo, if what you want is an existing deal, because they already hold a feed of "50+ active founder-led deals ready to transact". We build from zero against your thesis, which is slower to a first look and different in what it produces: conversations nobody else is having.

See this run on your mandate

Thirty minutes on your thesis, your current origination coverage, and the founder conversations this system would open in your market. The call goes to Martin directly. If we are not confident it fits, we will say so.

Confidential, and handled by the team that would run your mandate. Or read how the engine works first.
