Comparison

DealSource Systems vs CAPTARGET.

DealSource Systems wrote this page and DealSource Systems is one of the firms on it. That belongs in the first line, not in a footnote. Every CAPTARGET claim below was read off captarget.com on 18 September 2026 and is quoted, not summarised. CAPTARGET has been doing this since 2009 and we have not, which the page says plainly in the section on where they are stronger.

The first thing to know: CAPTARGET has joined SourceCo

A banner across the top of captarget.com reads: "CAPTARGET has joined SourceCo to build the next generation of expanded buy-side deal origination". SourceCo's own site says it "just acquired CapTarget to build the largest proprietary sourcing engine in middle-market deal origination".

This is material if you are signing a retainer. You are buying into a combined group in its first year of integration, not the standalone firm that built the track record. That can cut either way: more scale and more data behind the same team, or the usual disruption of an integration. Ask who staffs your mandate and whether the answer changes in six months. Our page on SourceCo covers the other half of the same group.

Who each one is for

CAPTARGET lists its buyers as "Private equity, Corporate development, Family offices, Independent sponsors, Search funds, Buy-side advisors". The natural fit is an active acquisition team that wants both off-market owner coverage and visibility on brokered deals, from the longest-tenured firm in the category.

DealSource Systems fits a fund, advisor or bank that wants a standing origination function on one or two theses, with a named operator accountable for the quality of every message that reaches an owner, and a price it can read before the call.

What CAPTARGET actually does

Three named lanes on their services page. "Off-Market Outreach": "Build and reach the universe of companies that fit your buy box." "Owner Calling": "Turn warm signals and priority targets into scheduled conversations." "On-Market Coverage": "Track brokered opportunities your team may not see or have time to chase."

Scale claims from their own pages: "1,500+ clients served since 2009", "$8B in closed deals", "15+ years of deal sourcing experience", "100% US-based calling team", and coverage that keeps clients "top of mind with 12K+ on-market intermediaries".

Fee model, stated plainly on their homepage: "No success fees, ever. Flat monthly subscriptions packages (on-market, off-market, or both)." Their resources include a piece titled "No Fees for Originated Deals". Onboarding is laid out as a 90-day plan, from "Define & Prepare" in weeks 1 and 2 through to "Day 91 onward: Decide the Next Coverage Path", while the homepage promises "Kickoff next business day, on-market can launch within 7-10 days". No prices are published anywhere on the site.

What we do

DealSource Systems runs origination as a standing function for private equity funds, M&A advisors, boutique investment banks and search funds. AI maps the market against your thesis, scores readiness signals on each company and drafts the approach. Then operators with deal experience review every message before an owner sees it and handle the replies, including the ones that need a real answer about structure or timing.

Pricing is on the site rather than behind a call: from $4,000 a month for a single thesis, $8,000 and above for a dedicated multi-thesis mandate, no success fee, 90-day minimum term. The engagement we publish in full is Merritt Healthcare Advisors, a healthcare investment bank: 14 qualified founder conversations in the first three weeks, 133 inside 90 days. We are part of Danish Lead Co.

Where CAPTARGET is stronger than us

Track record, and it is not close. "1,500+ clients served since 2009" and "$8B in closed deals" against our one published engagement. If your IC needs a vendor with fifteen years of references, that is CAPTARGET and it is not us.

On-market coverage. They monitor brokered flow and stay in front of "12K+ on-market intermediaries". We do not cover intermediated deals at all. If the gap in your pipeline is that bankers are not calling you, CAPTARGET closes it and we do not.

A calling team as a product. "100% US-based calling team" is a separately purchasable lane. Ours is not sold as a standalone service.

Breadth of mandate types. Fifteen years across fifty-plus industries means an unusual mandate has probably been run before.

Where we are stronger

Published pricing. Ours is on the site: from $4,000 a month, $8,000 and above for a dedicated multi-thesis mandate. CAPTARGET publishes no prices, so the only way to compare cost is to take a call.

Review before an owner sees it. Every message is reviewed by someone with deal experience before it goes out, and the same person handles the reply. That is the whole design, not an upgrade tier.

Ownership stability. We are not mid-integration. CAPTARGET's team and model may well survive the SourceCo deal intact, but that is a claim about the future and ours is a claim about now.

The honest counterweight: we are the newest firm in this category and we publish one documented engagement. Anyone asking for a decade of closed transactions across hundreds of mandates is asking for something we do not have yet.

When to choose CAPTARGET over us

Choose CAPTARGET if you need on-market broker coverage in the same contract as off-market outreach, if your committee requires a long documented history, if you want outbound calling bought as a discrete lane, or if you want a flat subscription with an explicit promise of no success fees, ever, from a firm that has honoured it since 2009.

When to choose us over CAPTARGET

Choose us if you want the price before the call, if your thesis is narrow enough that message quality matters more than volume, if you want the person writing to owners to be someone who can hold the follow-up conversation about structure, or if you would rather not sign into a firm that is in the first year of being absorbed into another one.

How we checked this

Read on 18 September 2026: captarget.com and captarget.com/services for the service names, claims, fee language and 90-day plan, including the SourceCo banner; sourcecodeals.com for the acquiring firm's description of the same deal. Both companies state the acquisition on their own sites. Our own figures come from our published engagement and our stated pricing. Nothing here is inferred from third-party listings.

Common questions

Has CAPTARGET been acquired?

Yes. A banner on captarget.com reads "CAPTARGET has joined SourceCo to build the next generation of expanded buy-side deal origination", and SourceCo's own site says it acquired CapTarget. Both firms state it publicly. If you are signing a retainer, ask who staffs your mandate after integration.

Does CAPTARGET charge success fees?

No. Their homepage says "No success fees, ever. Flat monthly subscriptions packages (on-market, off-market, or both)." We also charge no success fee.

How much does CAPTARGET cost?

They publish no prices. Their site describes flat monthly subscription packages with month-to-month and annual options, but no figures. We are not going to estimate on their behalf, so you will need to ask them.

What is the biggest difference between the two firms?

Coverage. CAPTARGET sells off-market outreach, owner calling and on-market broker coverage as separate lanes, so it can put brokered deals in front of you as well as owners. We only do off-market owner conversations, with a review step by someone with deal experience on every message.

Which one has the longer track record?

CAPTARGET, by a wide margin. They publish "1,500+ clients served since 2009" and "$8B in closed deals". We publish one engagement in full. That is a genuine advantage for them and we are not going to argue it away.

See this run on your mandate

Thirty minutes on your thesis, your current origination coverage, and the founder conversations this system would open in your market. The call goes to Martin directly. If we are not confident it fits, we will say so.
