Comparison
DealSource Systems vs Sourcescrub.
DealSource Systems wrote this page and DealSource Systems is one of the firms on it. That belongs in the first line, not in a footnote. A category comparison, not a quality one. Sourcescrub does something genuinely distinct and does it well. Every claim below was read off sourcescrub.com on 18 September 2026.
These are not the same purchase
Sourcescrub is a discovery engine. We are an outreach function. Their output is a ranked, enriched list of companies that match a thesis. Ours is a scheduled conversation with an owner. Nobody should be choosing between them on features, only on which constraint is binding this quarter.
What Sourcescrub actually does
The distinctive idea is in the name. Their site describes a platform that "continuously crawls the digital universe to find private companies, connects them with the 290,000-and-growing sources where they can be found, and puts them in an AI-powered platform to discover, track, and engage the best targets". The same page frames the product as "17M companies woven together with 290,000 Sources and lists".
Sources means award lists, conference attendee lists, trade association rosters and the like. One customer quote on their site describes running a 1,500-exhibitor conference list against investment parameters and getting back the 25 to 30 companies worth meeting. That is the use case it is built for and it is a good one.
Adoption claims: "35 of the Top 40 Firms Choose Sourcescrub" and "Over 700 companies". Customer-reported averages from a UserEvidence survey they cite: research productivity up 51.7%, direct sourcing up 50.0%, and 36.8% of pipeline deals sourced through the platform.
Two things to know. Their pricing page lists three tiers and every one of them says "Request pricing", so no figures are published. And a banner on the site reads "Sourcescrub and Grata are joining forces to deliver the market's most complete market intelligence platform". Grata's site adds that "Sourcescrub is now part of Datasite". If you are also evaluating Grata, it is the same group.
What we do
DealSource Systems runs origination as a standing function for private equity funds, M&A advisors, boutique investment banks and search funds. AI maps the market against your thesis, scores readiness signals on each company and drafts the approach. Then operators with deal experience review every message before an owner sees it and handle the replies, including the ones that need a real answer about structure or timing.
Pricing is on the site rather than behind a call: from $4,000 a month for a single thesis, $8,000 and above for a dedicated multi-thesis mandate, no success fee, 90-day minimum term. The engagement we publish in full is Merritt Healthcare Advisors, a healthcare investment bank: 14 qualified founder conversations in the first three weeks, 133 inside 90 days. We are part of Danish Lead Co.

Where Sourcescrub is stronger than us
Finding companies nobody has listed. A sources-first approach surfaces bootstrapped companies that appear on a trade show floor and nowhere else. We build market maps per mandate and we do not maintain anything like 290,000 curated sources.
Conference and event preparation. Turning an exhibitor list into a prioritised meeting list is a specific, valuable job we do not do at all.
Firm-wide leverage. A licence improves every thesis your team touches, this year and next. A retainer covers the thesis it is pointed at.
Measured productivity effects. Their published customer survey figures are a stronger evidence base on what the product does to a team's throughput than most vendors publish.
Where we are different
The list is the start of the work, not the end of it. Somebody still has to write to each owner in a way that earns a reply, follow up for months, and hold the conversation when it happens. That is the entire job we do, with operators who have deal experience reviewing every message before it goes out.
On our published engagement that produced 14 qualified founder conversations in three weeks and 133 within 90 days. A perfect target list and nobody to work it produces nothing at all, which is the most common failure we see in funds that bought a platform and never staffed the outreach.
The honest counterweight: we are the newest firm in this category and we publish one documented engagement. Anyone asking for a decade of closed transactions across hundreds of mandates is asking for something we do not have yet.
The sensible combination
Sourcescrub is unusually complementary to what we do, because their strength is finding the companies and ours is getting the owners to talk. A fund running both uses the platform to define and refresh the universe, and an origination function to work it continuously. If you only buy one, buy the one that fixes your binding constraint: information if your team has hours, capacity if it does not.
How we checked this
Read on 18 September 2026: sourcescrub.com for the product description, the sources and company counts, the adoption claims and the customer survey figures, and sourcescrub.com/pricing, where all three tiers say "Request pricing". The Grata statement appears on both sourcescrub.com and grata.com. Note that their own site shows two versions of the coverage numbers in different places; this page uses the ones on the homepage body. Our own numbers come from our published engagement.
Common questions
What makes Sourcescrub different from other databases?
The sources-first approach. Rather than starting from company records, they crawl award lists, conference attendee lists and trade rosters, which surfaces bootstrapped companies that do not appear in transaction-led datasets.
How much does Sourcescrub cost?
They publish three tiers on their pricing page and all of them say "Request pricing", so no figures are public. Ours are: from $4,000 a month for a single thesis, $8,000 and above for a dedicated multi-thesis mandate.
Is Sourcescrub merging with Grata?
Their site says "Sourcescrub and Grata are joining forces", and Grata's site says "Sourcescrub is now part of Datasite", with its data being integrated into Grata. Treat them as one group when you evaluate.
Can Sourcescrub replace an origination firm?
Only if your team has the hours to work the list it produces. The platform finds the companies; the conversations still have to be created by a person writing to owners and handling the replies for months.
Which one should we buy first?
Whichever fixes the binding constraint. If your associates have capacity and a weak map, buy the platform. If you have a clear thesis and nobody with time to run outreach against it, a better map will not get used.
